Time in-between
We often characterize life in local minima or maxima: today I'll be grabbing dinner with friends; this week I'll finish my taxes; at the end of the month I'll be traveling to Spain; but I'll also be getting a dreaded back surgery.
All of these are peaks or lows in excitement within a given time span.
But, we often we under-index on the lulls - the periods between rich highs and lows: bus rides between destinations, time spent cooking and cleaning, talking to roommates, working, falling asleep, and waking up.
That time, forgotten and neglected as it is, is richer than we think. It might not be as memorable, nor do we look as forward to it as much. But it's the majority of our lives.
Realize this the next time you're commuting, transitioning, ambiently existing.
Breathe. It's more than just a lull.
You're alive.
